The eleventh Festival de Jerez (tickets and bookings: Tel.: 956 327
327; web: www.festivaldejerez.es) will last until Friday the 10th
of march. In this Spanish and flamenco dance event, an international
reference, a total 46 shows will be performed in different stages.
Here we will refer to this month's calendar. The Teatro Villamarta
will be presenting the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, with choreography
by Cristina Hoyos and directed by José Carlos Plaza; María
del Mar Moreno's Company; Javier Barón's Ballet; Compañía
Antonio Márquez; Rocío Molina, directed by Pepa Gamboa;
and Andrés Peña and Pilar Ogalla, with Luis El Zambo
as guest artist.
The "Café Cantante" season, at midnight in Bodega
Los Apóstoles, presents Mayte Martín, Carmen Grilo and
Marina Heredia y La Macanita. The "Solos en Compañía"
season, in Sala Compañía, will feature Rafael del Carmen
and Juana Amaya, in the early evening. "Bordón y Cuenta
Nueva" presents guitar players like Santiago Lara in Los Apóstoles.
The "A-compás-a-dos" season will rule midnights in
Compañía, with Alicia Márquez and Manuel Liñán,
Olga Pericet and Marco Flores. In the afternoon hours, Villavicencio
presents "Los Conciertos de Palacio", with José Valencia
and Mari Ángeles Fernández or María Toledo. Finally,
the "De la Frontera" program, in Compañía,
will feature Úrsula López.
The Training Program of the Festival will take place, in its first
phase, from Saturday 24 to Friday the second of march; and then to
March 10. A total 36 courses are offered with a great diversity of
styles and levels and the presence of the best artists, many of them
still active. 850 pupils participated in last year's edition. On the
mornings, Inmaculada Aguilar will be providing siguriya dance lessons;
Ángeles Gabaldón, tangos; Matilde Coral, siguriyas with
long coat; Angelita Gómez, bulerías of Jerez; Rafaela
Carrasco, garrotín; and Rocío Molina, taranto.
At midday, Irene Carrasco and Rafael Campallo will teach alegrías;
Alicia Márquez, soleá; Manuel Liñán, martinete;
Mercedes Ruiz, siguiriyas; and Ana María López, bulerías.
And on afternoons, Soraya Clavijo will give bulerías notions;
Ángeles Gabaldón, alegrías; Manuel Betanzos,
martinete; Mercedes Ruiz, soleá; Inmaculada Aguilar, guajira;
and Andrés Marinde, siguiriya.
