A site under review by the Complutense
University, it already was a spa in the past
The Cachucha beach in Puerto Real (Local Tourist Office: Plaza Poeta Rafael Alberti, 4; Tel.: 856 213 362; e-mail: oficina.turismo@aytopuertoreal.es) will soon be known for a distinguishing element that can set it as one of the best sites in health tourism: the therapeutic quality of its mud. A team from the prestigious Universidad Complutense of Madrid has already made three sample tests and only needs one more to credit these medical conditions. A re-launch of healthy tourism has been planned due to these results and offering a 100% natural SPA. It must be noted this beach hosted the Balneario del Carmen, a salty water spa in use until the early 20th century.
In 1854 the "Spanish New Swimming Guide" already included Puerto Real among the most frequented coastal areas in Spain. According to the Hydrologic Medicine Spanish Society archives, there were 73 spas in the country at that time, visited by 32,000 bathers and some 16,000 companions, who spent 3 millions pesetas of those times in therapies, trips and accommodation. A centenary tree remains a witness from those times and can become a silent company for those looking for health and beauty tourism.
