The prestigious Michelin Guide awards the highest accolade of the province to Hotel Utopía in Benalup-Casas Viejas

It has taken Hotel Utopia in Benalup-Casas Viejas only one year to find its way into the prestigious Michelin Guide 2007 in which only 40 Spanish and Portuguese hotels are mentioned.

This is the highest achievement by any hotel in the whole of the province of Cádiz and places Benalup-Casas Viejas, with a population of only 7000, on the Michelin map.

The efforts of the province’s hotel industry are beginning to be recognised by the world’s experts making Cádiz a quality tourist destination.

Hotel Utopia, which opened its doors in February 2006, has managed to find a place amongst the world’s most special hotels largely due to its careful chronicling of 1930s life and society both in Spain and in the rest of the world. In Utopia you take a pleasant trip back in time to that unique decade of the last century.

The hotel has 16 rooms each of which is based around a specific 1930s theme: the Avant-garde, Art Deco, Cabaret, Jazz, The Zeppelin etc. The restaurant “La Fonda de Utopía”, inspired by the bohemian Parisian cafés, the music halls and the Berlin cabarets, as well as offering gastronomic delights also has live music and theatre.

There is also a museum “Espacio Años 30” containing 2000 original objects from the 1930s which offer an authentic documentary treasure.

The demanding standards of the Michelin Guide are well known by travellers and lovers of good food. Because of this unbending commitment, one million people read and follow the Michelin Guide making it the most reliable reference for travellers and for those wanting to find the best restaurants.

This is the first time that a hotel which has been in existence for less than a year has made it into the Michelin Guide since a minimum of two years in usually required.

Guía Michelín 2007

Having visited Hotel Utopía, Michelin’s inspectors awarded it three “red houses” for its charm and unique appeal, signifying that the establishment in question is very comfortable.

The Guide gives special mention to the pleasant atmosphere created, praising the building itself, its location, its original décor, its service and pleasant treatment of customers and the amenities it offers.

The thirty-fifth edition of the Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal (2007) gives information about 3240 hotels and 2163 restaurants carefully selected by a team of professionals who follow strict guidelines and criteria when judging the establishment’s installations, products and services.
