Tugasa opens new accommodation in Villaluenga del Rosario for lovers of nature and gastronomy

The fresh air of the Cadiz mountains, peace and tranquillity, beautiful scenery and excellent food. This is perhaps what best summarises Villaluenga del Rosario, a small village located at an altitude of 793 metres in the Sierra de Cadiz.

Tugasa (Turismo Gaditano S.A.), the provincial government of Cadiz’s tourist company, has inaugurated three self-catering apartments there to cater for the tourist demand in the municipality along with the hotel La Posada and the restaurant Los Llanos.

These 2 key category apartments are located in the Town Hall square next to the hotel and restaurant.

Their style and decor is in keeping with the standards found in other Tugasa accommodation, which always chooses furniture and material in keeping with its surroundings. In this case it has traditional country furniture similar to that found in the neighbouring hotel La posada.

Using an old hospital building, three apartments were created and fitted out to sleep 3 or 4 people. All have air conditioning, heating and television. Each apartment has wheelchair access and one of them is specially equipped for disabled visitors.

Prices are fixed throughout the whole year at 65, 95 and 115 euros per day, depending on the number of occupants (2, 3 or 4 people).

Nature and famous cheeses

Villaluenga del Rosario’s geographical location makes it particularly appealing to the tourist. Being the highest village in the province of Cadiz, there are various very interesting routes which can be followed on foot, by bike or on horseback.

As it is located in the nature reserve of Grazalema, the surroundings are of incredible beauty. Emerging from the rock, it is a veritable paradise for the lover of potholing with three of the four most important caves in Andalusia being located in the immediate vicinity.

With 481 inhabitants, it one of the least populated villages in the province of Cadiz. Despite its size, Villaluenga del Rosario is renowned in the world of gastronomy for its cheeses. The semi-cured sheep and goat cheese, especially Payoyo, have won several national prizes. Also highly prized are its cheeses soaked in animal fat and rosemary and its cured sheep cheese in Iberian pig fat.

The municipality dates back to the time of Al-Andalus and was re-conquered by Ponce del León in the name of Christianity in 1485. The name Villaluenga del Rosario derives from the fact that the old town centre is long and narrow combined with the town’s devotion to its patron the Virgin of Rosario.
