The second Championship SurfelPalmar.com will be held on the 8 and 9 of December, from 8.30 in the morning until the sun sets, Last year the event beat all records of participation in Andalusia, according to its promoter, José Gómez of “El Palmar Vejer Costa” – the School of Surfing (kite, body and boards).

This year they hope to beat last year’s record of 120 surfers who brought spectacle and crowds to the beach and the area around El Palmar, the coastline of Vejer de la Frontera.

Not surprising, perhaps, considering that amongst the hundred or more sportsman and women taking part were the professional team of Quicksilver and many other important surfers from Andalusia, Asturias, the Basque Country, the Canary Islands, The United Kingdom and France.

The final date for inscription for these championships, which costs only 15 euros, is 5 December. There are 5 categories: junior, open, masters, women and longboards and prizes include free travel and accommodation as well as top surfing gear and equipment.

According to José Gómez, the beach at El Palmar is a privileged enclave for surfers of all Andalusia and even more so at this time of year when the wind drops and the waves get bigger.

The event is organised by the Town Hall of El Palmar in conjunction with the above mentioned school, and sponsored by QuickSilver, the international brand of clothes and sports equipment, as well as various companies from the province of Cádiz.

During the whole year this school offers weekly and monthly surfing courses for boards or kites with monitors qualified in physical education and with the additional prestige of being able to boast champions of Spain and Europe.
