Fly Gibraltar will connect The Rock with London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Dublin

This month Fly Gibraltar becomes operative and you can reserve flights now for April 2007 onwards. The new low lost airline, was officially launched in London on 16 October and will fly from London (Stansted), Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and Dublin to Gibraltar and vice versa.

Four flights a day will fly into and out of Gibraltar with prices similar to those offered by other low-cost airlines with flights at around 30 pounds sterling (45 euros). Fly Gibraltar has indicated that it is not limited itself solely to the summer holiday market, and intends to add new European destinations in the future.

Customer information will be available in both English and Spanish and the majority of the employees will be Gibraltarian.

When starting this new venture the company considered not just the tourist potential of Gibraltar, but the appeal of the surrounding province of Cadiz as well. Just a few minutes away from the British colony one can find San Roque, one of the most important golf centres in Spain and where the Valderrama golf course is located – the site of The Ryder Cup was played in 1997. Tarifa, the Meca for windsurfers and water sports enthusiasts is also only a short distance away from Gibraltar.

The news of the agreement between Spain, the UK and Gibraltar over the shared use of Gibraltar’s airport has led to interest from various airline companies, particularly as with its new status, flying from any Spanish airport to Gibraltar will now be considered an internal flight.
