Harbour of Cádiz receives the biggest sailing ships of the world during the great "50th-anniversary"-regatta

Between the 26th and the 29th of July the harbour of Cádiz receives the most impressive aggregation of great sailing ships in the younger history, then when the provincial capital becomes the venue for the "Regata del Cincuentenario", whose aim it is to remind the first edition of the big sailing regatta, which took place exactly 50 years ago.

During the regatta days the arrival of about 83 sailing ships from 21 nations is expected, which then will animate the harbour of Cádiz with her colorful beauty.

The fleet coming from Lisbon remains in Cádiz up to the 29th of July, in order to continue her trip afterwards towards La Coruña, in the north of Spain.

Then the crews of the school ships will transform Cádiz' harbour and his periphery into a colossal melting pot of the cultures, which will be animated by the representatives from all five continents.

During the regatta days an exceedingly impressive scenario is to be expected in the pier of Cádiz, when 83 sailing ships drop anchor, 58 of them belonging to the class A, i.e., with more than 40-meter length.
Under it, there will be so nice specimens as for example the "Europa" or the "Estelle", great sailing ships, dating the former from 1911, whilst the latter dates from 1922.

During the three regatta days Cádiz expects more than a million tourists. Admittedly, the town already has experience with such big events, after all, in 1992 it was already venue of the "Regata Colón", as well as it was organizer of the big millennium regatta in 2000.

In addition, the "Regata del Cincuentenario" has a quite special patron with the American's cup, after all, it concerns the most prestigious sailing sports event of the world, which will take place in 2007 in Valencia.

The organizers of the "Copa América", according to the Spanish name, have nevertheless decided to promote the event in Cádiz. The provincial government of Cádiz (Diputación de Cádiz) supports the whole thing with 60,000 euros.
The town of Cádiz will thus not let escape the opportunity to draw the attention of the whole world to itself. Hence it has prepared a whole row of attractive special arrangements, so that the locals, as well as the arrived tourists and crew members, will keep this quite special event in remaining, good recollection.

All Cádiz will adorn itself, in order to offer to his guests concerts, flamenco presentations and, naturally, his "Carusel de Coros", the famous carnival choirs, during these days; the latter were already on the move last summer in the backstreets of the historical part of town, for the first time out of the normal carnival time, thus obtaining a big success.

On the harbour area itself the organizers will install a 2,100 m² tent in order to offer a wide service pack as well as to the visitors as to the crews, which consists, among other, in a fitness center, a show stage and the installation of fast Internet connections.

The whole tourism sector in Cádiz is therefore prepared very well, in order to profit from this big event and to demonstrate at the same time the high tourist potential of the region.
