The Hotel Chancillería will soon open right in the heart of Jerez's Santiago District, best known as one of the birthplaces of Flamenco. This hotel with 13 rooms in two 19th-century buildings has much more the feel of a hotel with character than a modern one, even though its main claim to fame is the fact it is an eco-hotel, one of the first in this region. The Hotel Chancillería is in perfect harmony with the environment and the emphasis has been placed on the use of environmentally-friendly materials in the building and for the running of the hotel. This does not mean that it is an old or uncomfortable hotel, but rather is perfectly in line with the concept of "sustainable development” where modernity, comfort and quality go hand in hand with the environment.
The 19th-century buildings that will house the hotel have been refurbished using ecological materials and following the principles of the bio-climatic architecture. This consists in designing the buildings taking into account the setting and using the available resources (,,sun, vegetations, rain, winds) to ensure the minimum consumption of water and energy for heating and cooling.
Great savings can be achieved and in fact the energy savings can be as high as 100% in certain climates. Even though construction costs are higher, the running the building is more profitable in the long run.
The hotel's power supply comes from solar panels, the rooms are fitted with low consumption taps and the waste water is recycled to minimise water consumption, together with a policy of avoiding non-renewable resources.
The owners plan to make the Hotel Chancilleria into an ideal place where to rest, where the visitors can disconnect from the rat race in a settling where the emphasis is on silence, relax and culture. The hotel has a full book-music-video library, where the guests can choose from hundred of titles free of charge. A reading room is the ideal spot to browse the daily newspapers available for the guests. Each room has a hi-fi set and a television with DVD player. The whole hotel has free wireless internet access.
The Hotel Chancillería will also organise other leisure activities at the weekend to ensure the guests make the most of the excellent facilities available in Jerez and the province of cadiz. Golf lovers can opt for the “Golf Weekend”, which includes green-fees, transport and lunch at the various golf courses. The “Eco-tourism Weekend” is a wonderful opportunity to discover the world of wine and the local wineries. It include visits to various vineyards in the Marco de Jerez sherry regions, as well as tasting the local wines and produce. Finally, there is the “Relaxation Weekend” for anyone looking for absolute peace and quiet, which includes yoga classes and Arab bath sessions with massages.
