Osborne recreates the history of wine during dramatised visits to its wineries
At nine o'clock in the evening on August 10th, the visitors to the Osborne winery in El Puerto de Santa Maria will be amazed to find themselves surrounded by Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Genoese and pirates. This is a new way to learn about this company, founded in 1774 by Tomás Osborne Mann to prepare, age and export sherry wines.
Creator of the image of the black bull, which has been the icon of Spain for many years, Osborne continues to prepare wines using traditional methods and its international prestige has turned the wineries into a real tourist must.
In order to streamline the current flow of visitors and also offer an alternative activity, this summer will mark the start of dramatised visits at night, where for an hour and a half, the visitor will enjoy live performances by the leading figures from the history of wine.
The guided visit to the winery ends with an opportunity to taste a variety of Osborne products: wines with the Jerez-Xerez-Sherry denomination of origin and Sanchez Romero Carvajal Iberian products under the hundred-year-old magnolia tree, where literary scholars, such as Fernán Caballero and Washington Irving, have sat.
The summer dramatized visits coincide with the fourth year of the special cultural programme and which includes painting exhibitions, theatrical performances, summer courses, sports activities and jazz festivals.
The visits are in Spanish and can be booked either by sending an email (visitas.bodegas@osborne.es) or by telephone (956869100).
The winery has also prepared a barrel-making display and incentive games for organised groups.
In addition to these activities, there are the guided visits in Spanish, English, French and German to the sherry (Bodega de Mora) and brandy (Bodega el Tiro) wineries that Osborne owns in El Puerto de Santa Maria. These visits are in groups accompanied by a guide, and include watching a film with general information about the company and the opportunity to taste the company’s products.
Last year, 100,000 people visited the Osborne production centres in Jabugo (Huelva), Malpica de Tajo (Toledo), Badalona and, of course, the two wineries in El Puerto de Santa Maria.
